    About Bluespoon Bar

The Prohibition era-inspired Bluespoon Bar is located on the ground floor of the recently opened Andaz Amsterdam, a luxury hotel situated on the Prinsengracht. The bar, just like the rest of the hotel, was designed by Marcel Wanders and puts a modern twist on typically Dutch drinking establishments. Which means the bar counter is an enormous granite edifice and the whole space feels a bit like someone's very stylish kitchen (this is a good thing).. There's an intimacy to this approach, a kind of communion with the bartender who stands before you surrounded by the tools and bottles of his trade, The dozen or so drinks on the cocktail menu are split thematically into pre-prohibition, prohibition, post-war, timeless classics, and new creations. From the first category the Brandy Crusta is a potent, bitter-sweet drink with a hit of citrus, while the Spring Garden, as its name implies, is refreshing and aromatic. The building in which the Andaz is housed used to be a public library and the Lucky Librarian pays homage to that. Artisanal ingredients are used and the drinks are all beautifully presented; the atmosphere meanwhile is contemporary and elegant, not nearly as stuffy as some hotel bars.
