About Employees Only

This Hudson Street cocktail bar has a railroad feel with a pressed tin ceiling and luggage racks overhead. Find it by looking out for the neon pink "psychic" sign glowing in the window. The bar tenders are white suited and sport dapper side-partings and handlebar moustaches, the cocktails are old school classics, superbly executed. This is true Golden Age drinking: perfectly rendered Manhattans and Negronis are the order of the day. Or for something more floral, opt for the Provencal, a blend of lavender-infused gin, vermouth steeped with herbes de Provence and Cointreau. There's a top notch range of whiskeys and tequilas on offer as well, along with a few bottled beers. The name alludes to the insider vibe this bar creates, an aura of after-hours exclusivity, something a little illicit although for a "secret" drinking den it's pretty darn popular. Guests are super packed on weekends and door staff can be needlessly picky. The music sometimes clashes with the carefully constructed atmosphere, but these are small negatives against this otherwise wholly original watering hole. A dinner menu of dishes such as roasted half chicken and whole rainbow trout is served in the dining room. There's also a late night menu of snacks, available daily from midnight to 3:30am. And if you make it to closing time, you might just get a bowl of chicken soup on the house, to set you up for the bleary-eyed journey home.
