About Ward III

This hip Tribeca lounge bar and restaurant is the latest in a line of places offering bespoke cocktails to New York's fickle drinkers. The menu itself is short but sweet and heavy on the classics, but the custom-tailored tipples are the way to go although the drinks aren't particularly cheap, they're made with quality ingredients and cost about what you'd expect to pay in a Tribeca bar. The venue deliberately cultivates a cool 'neighbourhood hangout' vibe; the pleasantly basic d├ęcor is all bare brick walls, wood and low leather stools, with the bar counter dominating the narrow room. Although it gets busy at the weekends, the atmosphere is always welcoming and the crowd a pleasingly mixed bunch. Open till 4am, it's the perfect place to unwind with a leisurely drink after a night out. The bar food is way above average (the lamb shank tacos are seriously good, and the pulled duck sliders come recommended vegetarians can gorge themselves on the mac and cheese, so won't feel left out). The friendly and helpful bartenders wear their skill and knowledge lightly. If cocktails aren't your thing there's still much to enjoy, and the place has a decent range of Belgian beers on tap if you fancy something other than spirits. Women wanting to hang out with their girlfriends (or grab a quick after-work drink solo) might be reassured to note that Ward III has a strict no harassment policy, with one of the main house rules being 'Gentlemen, don't be creepy'. There's always something going on, be it live music or a liquor tasting session, making for a memorable night whenever you visit.
